We’ll be heading out for Logansport in just a few minutes. Technology is great and all, but I remember a time when I could just pack a bag and walk out the door. Now I have to gather up all of the essentials of travel in the digital age — the adapters and attachments for the MacBook, iPad, iPods, and two iPhones. I’m glad I’m not trying to get through airport security with all of this electronic stuff!

KEVIN BURKETT is the assistant managing editor of presentation for The Philadelphia Inquirer. A native of Logansport, Ind., he is a 1990 graduate of Logansport High School and a former actor, director, and orchestra conductor with the city’s Civic Players organization.

In 1997, he earned his degree from Ball State University’s College of Communication, Information, and Media, and was awarded the school’s first Cardinal Scholar internship with The Inquirer where he began his career as a graphic artist and page designer. The next spring, the Society for News Design (SND) announced that the staff of the Ball State Daily News, for which Kevin had served as assistant graphics editor, won the coveted “World’s Best Designed Newspaper” award, becoming the first collegiate newspaper ever to win the international honor.

Since that time, Kevin has won 10 additional awards of excellence from SND, along with various awards from the Society for Professional Journalists and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. In addition to his work within the pages of the newspaper, Kevin has designed four coffee table books with colleagues from The Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News.
